STORRS, Conn.—Connecticut's highly touted recruit Elena Delle Donne has been named the top girls' high school basketball player in the country.

Delle Donne, of Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Del., won the 2008 Naismith National High School Player of the Year award. The honor is given yearly by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

The 6-foot-5 Delle Donne averaged 30 points and 11 rebounds this season, despite missing 10 games because of mononucleosis. She is also Delaware's all-time leading scorer for boys and girls with 2,475 points.

She will be honored in Atlanta on March 25.

Former UConn great Diana Taurasi and current Husky Maya Moore won the Naismith award in high school.
