Moore eases UConn by Northern Colorado

Faced with the unenviable task of facing top-ranked Connecticut, Northern Colorado coach Jaime White relied on a battled-tested methodology to motivate her team.
"We talked about how they are the same age as you are," White said. "You know, they have MySpace pages just like you do. Still, I think they were excited about playing one of the best teams we'll see, one of the best teams I've seen in all my years in basketball."
Sophomore forward Maya Moore scored 19 points to lead the top-ranked Huskies to an 85-40 rout of the smaller Bears last night in the Caribbean Classic in Cancun.
"She's pretty consistent with the way she plays," UConn coach Geno Auriemma said of Moore, a first-team All-American. "She plays at a very high level."
Renee Montgomery added 15 points for the Huskies (9-0), who wiped out a first-half deficit with a 14-2 run that put the game in their control. Each of UConn's 10 players scored, and junior center Kaili McLaren had 8 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Senior guard Jamie Schroder led the Bears (4-6) with 17 points.
"Coach wanted us to limit the amount of shots they took, not so much the amount they made," Montgomery said. "The goal was not to let them do what they may have wanted to do."
Tina Charles, who had scored 29 points in each of her last two games, wound up with just 9 points.
Stanford 78, South Carolina 47 - Kayla Pedersen (15 points, 16 rebounds) and Jayne Appel (15 points, 14 rebounds) each had double-doubles to lead the No. 3 Cardinal (8-2) past the Gamecocks (5-4) in Columbia, S.C.
Auburn 65, George Washington 51 - DeWanna Bonner had season highs of 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead the No. 10 Tigers (11-0) over the Colonials (5-4) in Washington.
Rutgers 61, Lafayette 29 - Epiphanny Prince scored 23 points and Kia Vaughn added a season-high 13 to help the host No. 14 Scarlet Knights (7-2) win their fifth straight game.
Pittsburgh 89, Florida A&M 59 - Xenia Stewart scored 27 points to lead the No. 16 Panthers (9-1) over the Rattlers (4-5) in Tallahassee, Fla.
Vanderbilt 98, Tennessee State 82 - Hannah Tuomi scored a career-high 23 points and led four Commodores (9-2) in double figures in their victory over the Lady Tigers (4-8) in Nashville.
Oklahoma St. 75, Southern Miss. 72 - Andrea Riley scored 35 points, and the No. 22 Cowgirls (6-2) held off the Golden Eagles (5-6) in the Desert Draw tournament in Las Vegas.
Siena 54, Harvard 49 - Emily Tay scored 12 points and her one assist moved her into a tie for third in career helpers with Barbarann Keefer, but the Crimson (7-5) lost to the Saints (2-7) in the Women of Troy Basketball Classic in Los Angeles.
Marquette 94, Western Carolina 77 - Lazar Hayward scored a career-high 27 points as the No. 24 Golden Eagles (9-2) ran away with a victory over the Catamounts (5-4) in Milwaukee.
