Eggleston, Penn slip by Crimson

Jack Eggleston scored 19 points, including 4 in the final 1:05, as Pennsylvania defeated Harvard, 66-60, last night at Lavietes Pavilion.

Zack Rosen added 15 points and nine assists as Penn (5-10, 1-0 Ivy League) won its conference opener.

Doug Miller scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and had 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Harvard (9-8, 1-2). Jeremy Lin added 13 points for the Crimson.

Lin made two free throws to pull Harvard within 62-60 with 38.4 seconds to play, but the Crimson were called for an intentional foul trying to force a turnover. Kevin Egee made both technicals and Eggleston hit two free throws with 10 seconds to go.

Harvard shot 52 percent from the field but made only 7 of 16 free throws.

Cornell 90, Brown 58 - Dale Lewis scored 23 points in 22 minutes and added 4 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Big Red over the Bears (6-11, 0-3 Ivy) in Ithaca, N.Y.

Cornell extended its league winning streak to 18 games and its winning streak at Newman Arena to a school-record 16, improving to 13-7 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Columbia 53, Yale 42 - Jason Miller had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Lions (6-11, 1-2 Ivy) rallied in New York to end the Bulldogs' (7-10, 2-1) five-game winning streak.

Princeton 59, Dartmouth 54 - Pawel Buczak scored 14 points and Dan Mavraides had 13 to lead the Tigers (6-8, 1-0 Ivy) over the Big Green (3-14, 1-2) in Hanover, N.H.

Fairfield 68, Marist 63 - Mike Evanovich scored 18 points and Greg Nero added 15 to lead the host Stags (13-9, 6-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) over the Red Foxes (7-16, 3-8).

Butler 59, Valparaiso 51 - Gordon Hayward scored 18 points and the No. 13 Bulldogs (19-1, 10-0 Horizon League) held off the Crusaders (6-16, 3-8) in Indianapolis.

Women
Harvard 72, Penn 63 - Emily Tay scored a season-high 22 points, Brogan Berry added 18, and the Crimson (9-7, 1-1 Ivy) earned their 500th victory in program history, defeating the Quakers (3-13, 0-2) in Philadelphia.

Dartmouth 71, Princeton 67 - Meghan McFee's career-high 21 points lifted the Big Green (7-9, 2-0 Ivy) to their 500th victory, defeating the host Tigers (6-10, 1-1) in overtime.

Yale 63, Columbia 61 - Haywood Wright and Melissa Colborne each scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (9-8, 2-1 Ivy) over the Lions (8-9, 1-2) in New Haven.

Cornell 74, Brown 62 - Shannan Scarselletta's 22 points led the visiting Big Red (6-9, 2-1 Ivy) over the Bears (3-14, 1-2).

Virginia 89, Maryland 81 - Lyndra Littles scored 30 points, Monica Wright had 28, and the No. 19 Cavaliers (17-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied past the No. 8 Terrapins (16-4, 4-2) in Charlottesville, Va.

Pittsburgh 86, Marquette 54 - Shavonte Zellous scored 31 points and the No. 21 Panthers (16-4, 6-2 Big East) defeated the visiting Golden Eagles (12-9, 3-4) for their fifth straight win.
