Ryan Sharry scored 19 points and hit two key free throws late, and Middlebury preserved its undefeated season and No. 1 ranking in Division 3 by holding off 13th-ranked Williams, 80-79, yesterday in Vermont.

The Ephs nearly erased a 12-point, second-half deficit, getting within 1 in the final seconds. But James Wang’s 3-point try with five seconds remaining was off the mark and the Panthers escaped to improve to 18-0, 6-0 in the NESCAC.

Taylor Epley scored 17 of his career-high 26 points in the second half to spark Williams’s comeback.

Sharry hit a pair of free throws with 27 seconds left to give Middlebury a 4-point lead. Nate Robertson answered for Williams, sinking a layup with 16 seconds left to make it 79-77. After Joey Kizel hit one of two free throws to make it a 3-point game, Wang’s layup with seven seconds left made it 80-79.

Kizel was fouled again and missed the front end of the one-and-one, giving Wang and the Ephs (15-5, 3-3) one last chance.

Northeastern 58, Hofstra 51 - Quincy Ford and Jonathan Lee each scored 17 points and the host Huskies (11-10, 7-4 CAA) pulled away to down the Pride (7-16, 1-10).

Reggie Spencer finished with 13 points for Northeastern, which won for the eighth time in 11 games.

Holy Cross 76, Colgate 60 - Devin Brown scored 27 points and the host Crusaders (9-12, 3-4 Patriot) built a 17-point halftime advantage and rolled past the Raiders (6-15, 1-6) to snap a four-game losing streak.

Rhode Island 86, Dayton 81 - Billy Baron scored a career-high 25 points and the Rams (4-18, 1-6 Atlantic 10) ended a six-game losing streak while snapping an eight-game home winning streak for the Flyers (14-7, 4-3). The last time Rhode Island played at Dayton, on Jan. 26, 2010, it ended a 30-game Flyers’ home winning streak.

Yale 62, Dartmouth 52 - Reggie Willhite scored 16 points and the host Bulldogs (13-5, 3-1 Ivy) rebounded from a 30-point loss to Harvard Friday night by handing the Big Green (4-16, 0-4) their ninth loss in 10 games.

Maine 67, Binghamton 59 - Justin Edwards scored 18 points to help the Black Bears (9-10, 3-5 America East) knock off the visiting Bearcats (0-20, 0-8), who remain the only winless team in Division 1.

Albany 72, Hartford 60 - Logan Aronhalt scored 17 points and the visiting Great Danes (14-9, 6-3) held the Hawks (4-17, 4-5) scoreless for the final 5:02 to erase a 4-point deficit and earn the America East win.

Wagner 51, Quinnipiac 50 - Kenneth Ortiz made a free throw with four seconds left and the visiting Seahawks (17-4, 8-2 Northeast) held off the Bobcats (11-10, 4-6).

Central Conn. 69, Fairleigh Dickinson 63 - Robby Ptacek scored 21 points and the host Blue Devils (10-10, 7-3 NEC) hit 25 of 28 free throws to edge the Knights (2-19, 1-9).

Mount St. Mary’s 81, Sacred Heart 80 - Shane Gibson scored a career-high 41 points, but the Mountaineers (5-16, 3-7 NEC) scored the final 5 points in the second overtime to rally past the host Pioneers (10-13, 4-6).

Monmouth 78, Bryant 68 - Jesse Steele scored 22 points and the Hawks (6-17, 4-6 NEC) handed the host Bulldogs (2-20, 1-9) their seventh straight loss.

Stonehill 73, Pace 68 - Andrew Congo scored 23 points to boost the Skyhawks (14-5, 11-4 Northeast-10) over the Setters (9-10, 7-8) in Easton.

Bentley 80, Southern Conn. 75 - Sam Leclerc hit 5 of 7 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 30 points, lifting the host Falcons (13-5, 9-5 NE-10) past the Owls (8-10, 6-8).

Adelphi 62, St. Anselm 51 - Richard Harkins scored all of his 19 points in the second half as the visiting Panthers (14-5, 11-4 NE-10) pulled away to down the Hawks (8-11, 6-9).

UMass-Lowell 80, New Haven 54 - Dipanjot Singh scored a game-high 26 points off the bench to boost the host River Hawks (14-5, 10-5 NE-10) past the Chargers (13-6, 9-6).

Merrimack 70, Assumption 64 - Wayne Mack scored 20 points and the host Warriors (10-9, 7-8 NE-10) held off the Greyhounds (8-11, 6-9).

R.I. College 66, Eastern Conn. 48 - Mike Akinrola tossed in 21 points and the host Anchormen (15-6, 6-3 Little East), ranked 24th in Division 3, raced past the 18th-ranked Warriors (15-3, 7-2).

Southern Maine 85, Western Conn. 84 - Chris Pagentine hit two free throws with 2.8 seconds left to help the host Huskies (8-10, 2-7 Little East) surprise the Colonials (15-4, 6-3).

Tufts 67, Bates 62 - Scott Anderson scored 13 points and the host Jumbos (14-5, 5-2 NESCAC) got past the Bobcats (10-8, 4-3).

Albertus Magnus 87, Mount Ida 74 - Ray Askew scored 31 points to become the second player in school history to top 2,000 and the visiting Falcons (17-1, 12-0 Great Northeast) topped the Mustangs (6-11, 3-7) for their 12th straight win.
