The America’s Cup. Honestly couldn’t tell you when the last one was – or when the next one is. Is Ted Turner still the American captain? Dennis Conner? Now if we’re racing speedboats, that’s another matter.
4
Any big auto race. Other parts of the country go nutty over this stuff, but ask 10 average Bostonians who won the Daytona 500 or the Indy 500 last year and you might get two right answers.
3
The MLS Cup. OK, so I’m not a soccer fan. But go ahead and name five teams other than the Revolution. And while you’re at it, tell us who has won the last three titles.
2
The FedEx Cup. An entirely contrived attempt by the golf world in hopes of keeping us connected after the PGA Championship. Even the players aren’t sure how the standings are computed.
1
The Pro Bowl. Can we just stop the charade and eliminate the game altogether? Nobody cares, including the players. How about an NFL skills competition for charity instead?

Shortstop Apparently, it's reached the point where the Red Sox have to trade their shortstop to trim payroll. Anyone feel good about that?
4
Carl Crawford After a poor debut season in Boston, he had wrist surgery. And now we know the owner never wanted him.
3
The bullpen No small story here. Jonathan Papelbon is gone and Daniel Bard is in the rotation. Welcome, Mark Melancon and Andrew Bailey.
2
Bobby Valentine The last time the Red Sox changed managers, they won the World Series. Will history repeat?
1
Josh Beckett By the end of last season, Beckett seemed to lose his focus and his fire. Can he bounce back - and stay healthy, too?

"Embarrassment of riches" is a bit of an overstatement, Mazz, and will be until we're actually outspending the Yankee$ on a regular basis.
