It is possible that the Celtics will find themselves boxed into having to make a deal whether they want to or not, if only because their competitors in the East have thrown themselves headfirst into the marketplace. With Stoudemire, Miami becomes a serious contender almost immediately, and gives Boston another youngish, athletic team against which the Celtics can wear down in the third and/or fourth quarter.

That said, the Glen Davis for DJ Augustin rumor sounds like an authentically terrible idea. The Celtics don't need another point guard so badly that they can afford to lose a young frontcourt player, not with the way Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have started to look in the late stages of almost every game. If this is about attitude, or some other "intangible," that's an even worse reason to make the deal. Like it or not, this team is more than halfway to belonging to Rajon Rondo and the rest of the younger players. Shuffling Davis out of town -- and doing so for a backup point guard who's been having problems with his coach, besides -- is spinning your wheels to no good purpose.
