Jason Varitek's retirement doesn't come as much of a surprise, nor should the fact that the Red Sox have probably known about the decision for some time.

As it turns out, a few fans mistakenly discovered Varitek's future with the franchise during a tour of the clubhouse on Truck Day at Fenway Park. Varitek's nameplate had been removed from his locker, prompting Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino to get a little defensive in front of the camera, deeming the absence, "temporary."

No longer, as it turns out.

The owners of the video - a family from New York state invited to tour the clubhouse by Lucchino -  said on YouTube that they held back on posting the video out of respect for the former Red Sox captain.
