Sheffield to have surgery

According to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, outfielder Gary Sheffield will have surgery Tuesday on his left wrist and will be out until at least September. Cashman doesn’t expect it to be season-ending.

With Sheffield out for an extended period of time, the Yankees may now go looking for an outfielder on the trade market. The Phillies’ Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu and the Nationals’ Alfonso Soriano could be potential targets.
