Gabbard solid

Unless there are a few roster maneuvers and/or injuries the chances of lefty Kason Gabbard sticking with the Sox’ 12-man staff are slim. But Gabbard continues to impress – hurling three scoreless innings against the Pirates this afternoon.

Gabbard will likely start at Triple-A Pawtucket. One thing that’s happened is Gabbard’s confidence has risen between his stint with the Sox late last year and spring training.

“I can pitch up here,” he said. He feels he just needs to stay consistent with his fastball and be able to spot it on the corners.

He’s realistic in that he knows the only way he could make the roster is as a reliever. But with the Sox committed to Hideki Okajima and J.C. Romero, it would be difficult to envision a third lefty in the pen.
