The Angels completed a three-game sweep of the error-prone Red Sox with a 9-2 victory tonight before a Fenway Park crowd of 38,042, who watched as the American League West leaders erupted for 16 hits, including 11 off of Josh Beckett, who absorbed his third consecutive loss in as many starts after allowing eight runs in 5-1/3 innings to drop to 9-8 on the season.
The Sox matched a season high with four errors, three during a wild five-run eruption by the Angels in the sixth inning.
Garrett Anderson, who went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI, delivered the crushing blow in the sixth when he belted a 2-run homer off Beckett. It helped the Angels blow the game wide open, 8-2, after Coco Crisp’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth had pulled the Sox within one run, 3-2.
Joe Saunders (14-5) got the win for the Angels.
Torii Hunter hit a solo homer off Justin Masterson (1.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 strikeout) to lead off the ninth. It added insult to injury as the Angels took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
