More on Giles

CHICAGO — When Brian Giles nixed a chance to go to the Sox today — before the 1:30 p.m. deadline to make a deal — the Sox weren’t entirely broken up about the situation, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. While they would have liked to have Giles, a high on-base percentage guy, it was about a 50-50 split between wanting him and blocking him from going to another team (Tampa Bay).

The team had only preliminary talks with San Diego and Kevin Towers about it before Giles said he wasn’t interested in being traded. The outfielder is very comfortable in San Diego, and didn’t want to leave a good situation, both because he likes the area and because he likes the playing time.
