FORT MYERS, Fla. — Word from both sides is that there have been no substantive talks regarding a contract extension between the Red Sox and Jason Bay. But that doesn’t mean that the two sides won’t get together at some point.
In fact, Joe Urbon — who is Bay’s agent, despite the rumors that Scott Boras represents the left fielder — will be in Fort Myers tomorrow. Urbon is also the agent for Takashi Saito, and was hoping to get a chance to watch his other client play. Bay has joined the Canada team for the World Baseball Classic, and is training with them.
Because the market for outfielders was established at the end of the offseason, that might lead to an opening for the sides to come together. Bay is in the final year of a four-year, $18.25 million deal. He is earning $7.5 million this season.
