Report: Sox sign Cherry

According to a report by the New York Daily News’s Adam Rubin, the Red Sox have signed former Orioles righthander Rocky Cherry to a minor-league contract.

Cherry, 29, was 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA last season for Baltimore. He was selected by the Mets in the Rule 5 draft, but he was released March 17 after the Orioles declined to take him back.

In five career appearances against the Red Sox, he has a 12.00 ERA, allowing eight earned runs — including three homers — in six innings.
