Masterson calls trade “bittersweet”

Justin Masterson said he is excited about a new opportunity in Cleveland but the entire experience is “bittersweet.” Before today’s game against the Orioles, Masterson was in the clubhouse exchanging hugs with teammates and saying his goodbyes as word spread that he had been traded to Cleveland for Victor Martinez.

“It’s the first time it’s happened in my career,” said the 24-year old pitcher. “It could be the first of many. I mean, you never know, so you’re just trying to go through it and try to make the best of it. It will be nice when we get to Cleveland, but it’s unfortunate to have to leave a great organization like the Red Sox, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about Cleveland, so I’ll be excited to get up there.”
