Cameron out for the season

After a meeting today with team officials, Mike Cameron has decided to get surgery on his lower abdominal tear.

He will miss the rest of the season but should be ready for spring training.

UPDATE, 6:16 p.m.: Cameron and his agent, Mike Nicotera, are in the process of choosing a doctor to do the surgery. Terry Francona said having the surgery now will improve the chances of Cameron being ready for spring training

“He was fighting an uphill fight,” Francona said.

Francona said he was comfortable going forward with Ryan Kalish in center field with assistance from Darnell McDonald. “I think we’re all pretty excited about Kalish,” he said.
