Hermida signs with Oakland

Oakland has signed Jeremy Hermida to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Triple A Sacramento. He is 2 for 4 with two doubles so far tonight in his first game.

Hermida hit .203/.257/.348 over 52 games for the Red Sox before being designated for assignment, outrighted to Pawtucket and then released. He hit .288/.329/.403 in 19 games for Pawtucket.

Hermida is further proof that former first-round picks always get extra chances. But he’s only 26. The Sox open a series in Oakland on Friday.

(Thanks to MLB Trade Rumors where I saw this first.)

Also:

• Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that pending free agent Jayson Werth has dropped the Beverly Hills Sports Council as his agent and is seeking a new one. Given his status as one of the best bats on the market, Werth must be getting hounded.

• Alex Rodriguez confirmed a report that he dropped Scott Boras as his agent, which is not really a big deal as he signed through the age of 42 in 2017.

The amusing part is that A-Rod is apparently back under the influence of Hollywood agent and Madonna guru Guy Oseary. Clearly A-Rod is up to something and that can only be good news for the Red Sox.
