Blue Jays interested in Red Sox coaches

A few Red Sox tidbits to be aware of:

• Bench coach DeMarlo Hale, pitching coach John Farrell and third base coach Tim Bogar are among the candidates to become the next manager in Toronto. The Blue Jays have a wide field of candidates.

CSNNE.com reported the Blue Jays have already held preliminary interviews with Bogar and Hale.

Farrell has been seen as the most likely successor to Terry Francona as manager of the Red Sox. But Francona, 51, shows no signs of being ready to leave his position.

• The Arizona Fall League kicked off on Tuesday. The Red Sox have eight players on the roster of the Peoria Javelinas: RHP Seth Garrison, SS Jose Iglesias, RHP Casey Kelly, C Ryan Lavarnway, OF Juan Carlos Linares, RHP Eammon Portice, RHP Jason Rice and RHP Dan Turpen.

Iglesias was 1 for 4 with an RBI in his first game. Lavarnway was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk while Linares was 2 for 4 with a double. Kelly pitches today.

Iglesias, a shortstop, will play some third base. Peoria also has shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria (a Toronto prospect) on the roster, so the two will have to share their primary position.

Most of the players are in Arizona for specific reasons. Iglesias needs at-bats after getting only 261 during the season because of a broken finger. Lavarnway needs work behind the plate. Kelly needs another 3-4 starts to reach his inning limit.

The AFL runs through Nov. 18. You can follow the games on the league web site.
