Red Sox sign utilityman Hector Luna

According to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, the Red Sox have signed Hector Luna to a minor league deal. Sources have confirmed that to the Globe.

Luna, who turns 31 on Feb. 1, had a solid .294/.367/.477 season for Triple A New Orleans last year and played in 27 games for the Marlins.

Over parts of six seasons with the Cardinals, Indians, Blue Jays and Marlins, he has hit .265 and started games at every position except pitcher and catcher. He is primarily an infielder.

Luna gives the Red Sox insurance, particularly if Jed Lowrie goes on the disabled list.
