Good morning from Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Spring training really gets going today. The players checked in on Sunday, had their physicals yesterday and today they get on the field in uniform and start the process of getting ready for the season.

For the pitchers, it’s a methodical process. They’ll throw two two bullpen sessions and then face hitters twice in batting practice before being cleared to pitch in a game. Some pitchers (Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka) have thrown in the bullpen already. Others have only played long toss to strengthen their arms. Everybody has their own pace.

This camp will be a little different, mainly because new pitching coach Curt Young will alter the schedule John Farrell used. He prefers once extra bullpen session before the pitchers throw BP. As Terry Francona noted yesterday, the hitters are fine with that. Those BP sessions always make them look bad anyway.

At last count, the Globe has six folks here to bring you the words, sights and sounds of spring training. So check back later on for more coverage.
