Lester remains lined up for Opening Day

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Jon Lester threw 57 pitches against the Twins today (41 of them strikes) and then tossed 10 more in the bullpen. That bout with the flu that cost him a start has been overcome.

Lester remains lined up for Opening Day, which has been the case for a while now. Terry Francona has yet to announce his choice yet, however.

WBZ’s Jonny Miller asked Lester about that idea today.

“It’s not something I’m worried about right now,” Lester said. “We’ve still got a long way to go and some innings to go and when that day comes, if Tito gives me the ball, it will be a big honor. But if he doesn’t, it’s no big deal. … I just pitch when they tell me to pitch. If it winds up that day, then so be it. Obviously I’d be very honored to take the ball that day.”
