Clay’s balky back results in early exit

Clay Buchholz left tonight’s game at Tropicana Field after five innings due to lower back tightness.

This has been a recurring problem for Buchholz who has tried to pitch through. We’ll see if the team decides to give Buchholz more rest especially considering that Andrew Miller appears to be on his way to Boston soon to take a spot in the rotation.

Buchholz pitched well for five innings – two hits and one run with three walks and five strikeouts. He threw 81 pitches before being relieved by Alferdo Aceves in the sixth. He left with a 3-1 lead.
