Earlier today, Carl Crawford was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. He will be eligible to come off the DL during the Sox’ trip to Houston (July 1-3), Crawford’s hometown. That is when he hopes to return to the team.
“Definitely wouldn’t want to miss that series,” Crawford said after tonight’s game. “It’ll be cutting it close, that’s for sure. Hopefully, things will get better soon.”
Crawford said he’s never had an injury like this before, but he understands how careful he must be during the upcoming weeks — particularly because speed is such a big part of his game.
“A hamstring injury, you don’t want to mess around with that,” Crawford said. “You see a lot of guys try to come back too early and they mess it up and end up being out even longer. We just want to make sure when I come back, I stay there.”
This is just Crawford’s second trip to the DL in his 10-year career.
“It’s never a good thing to go on the disabled list, but you have to do what you have to do,” Crawford said.
