This day in Red Sox history

According to the Red Sox, it was on this day 100 years ago that team owner John I. Taylor made public his intention to build a new ballpark in the Fenway neighborhood.

Taylor sold a 50 percent controlling share of the team in September 1911 to James McAleer, who became team president. Taylor stayed on to oversee Fenway Park’s construction, which began later that month.

Wonder if Taylor and McAleer ever walked the neighborhood and said, “See that spot right there? One hundred years from now somebody will pay $50 to park there for 3 hours.”
