According to reports out of Chicago, the Red Sox are focusing on righthander Trey McNutt as one of the players they want as compensation for Theo Epstein.
He’s a big 22-year-old (6-4, 220) with a good fastball and sketchy control. He had some injury issues this season but is generally considered a high upside type of guy. If you were expecting the Red Sox to get prime-time talent, adjust your expectations. That’s not really how it works in terms of compensation.
The teams are operating on a soft deadline of tomorrow to get this done. Otherwise they would have to get permission of MLB to announce it during the World Series.
