Pedro Ciriaco: Scourge of the Yankees

Remember how Baltimore’s Robert Andino tortured the Red Sox last season? The Yankees have their own version of that dynamic in Pedro

Ciriaco in 9 games against the Yankees this season: .486/.500/.657 with 11 runs, 7 RBIs, 4 SBs

Ciriaco in 47 games against everybody else: .265/.279/.384 with 16 runs, 10 RBIs, 7 SBs

Ciriaco also made two nice plays at third base last night. All this from a 26-year-old former Triple A backup for the Pirates.
“He finds a way against us,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Then there is this: Ciriaco was in an 8-for-50 slump before going 2 for 3 and scoring the winning run on Tuesday night.

Most of this is probably just statistical coincidence. Ciriaco laughed at the idea that somehow he plays better against the Yankees.

“I wish I played like that against everybody,” he said.
But for now, it’s a fun thing to watch.
