FORT MYERS, Fla. — Mike Carp was told this morning that he made the Red Sox roster. As of 9 a.m., Jackie Bradley Jr. and Daniel Nava had not yet been told. But that would seem to be a formality.
Carp, 26, is a first baseman and left fielder who was obtained from Seattle on Feb. 20 for future considerations. He has not hit particularly well in camp (.190/.244/.310) but has a track record that includes a solid 2011 season (.276/.326/.466) with Seattle that included 12 home runs. Carp was injured much of last season.
“I knew I was in a good position, especially playing first base and having the experience there. But you never know until you get the final decision from the skipper himself,” Carp said. “It was nice this morning to come, get pulled in the office and told. It’s a good feeling. You can have a good day and get ready for tomorrow and that flight to New York.”
So unofficially, the roster looks like this:
Starters (5): Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Felix Doubront, John Lackey.
