Game over: Red Sox 2, Rays 1: The Red Sox pitched their way to a one-run victory. Daniel Nava’s third-inning two-run homer was all the Red Sox needed. Alfredo Aceves gave the Sox six strong innings. Andrew Bailey stranded a runner at second in the 9th to earn the save. The game was played in 3:22 before 15,091.

Top 9th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – Sox can’t add to lead after the third inning. Hold on now as Andrew Bailey enters the game.

Bottom 8th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – A double by Kelly Johnson with two outs goes by the boards as Longoria fans vs. Koji Uehara.

Top 8th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – A Mike Carp single – his second of the game – was about all Boston could muster in the offense-less game.

Bottom 7th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – Aceves out after 84 pitches, one run, four hits, four walks, three K’s. Nice spot start.

Top 7th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – The top of the Red Sox order – Ellsbury (strikeout), Nava (strikeout) and Pedroia (lined to right) go down.

Bottom 6th: Red Sox 2, Rays 1 – Longoria spoils Aceves’ shutout bid with a home run.

Top 6th: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – Red Sox went down in order as Aceves has pitched really well.

Bottom 5th: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – The Rays couldn’t use a pair of hits vs. Aceves to score a run as Aceves keeps shutout in tack.

Top 5th: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – Mike Napoli was hit with a pitch and stole second base. Yes, not a misprint.

Bottom 4th: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – The Rays go down in order.

Top 4th: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – The Red Sox had a great chance to extend their lead, loading the bases on a pair of walks by Middlebrooks and Ellsbury and a leadoff single by Carp. But Nava struck out with the bases loaded.

Bottom 3rd: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – Matt Joyce walked and advanced to third on Ben Zobrist’s single to right. But Aceves got a big strikeout on Kelly Johnson and then got evan Longoria to ground into a inning-ending double-play.

Top 3rd: Red Sox 2, Rays 0 – Daniel Nava hits his 9th homer with Jacoby Ellsbury aboard. Ellsbury reached on a single, stole second base (his 29th) and advanced to third on a throwing error by Jose Lobaton before Nava struck.

Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 0, Rays 0 – The Rays loaded the bases as Aceves walks three, but he got Yunel Escobar to ground out with the final out.

Top 2nd: Red Sox 0, Rays 0 – Archer struck out two Red Sox in a 1-2-3 inning.

Bottom 1st: Red Sox 0, Rays 0 -Alfredo Aceves returned for another cameo appearance to start. He retired the Rays in order.

Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Rays 0 – Jacoby Ellsbury drew a leadoff walk and stole second, but Rays starter Chris Archer got Daniel Nava, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz to make outs.
