Ciriaco traded to Padres

According to Peter Gammons, the Red Sox will trade utility player Pedro Ciriaco to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later.

Ciriaco was designated for assignment on Monday. He hit .216 in 28 games for the Sox as an infield backup. Ciriaco is a career .287 hitter in parts of four seasons with the Pirates and Red Sox.

Ciriaco is out of minor league options and will be on San Diego’s major league roster. The Padres need infield depth with Jedd Gyorko on the disabled list.
