More youth will find its way on the Red Sox roster as Brock Holt has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill the spot of Will Middlebrooks who is heading to the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 5) with a right calf strain.
Middlebrooks was batting .231 (3-for-13) with a home run, an RBI, two runs, a double, and a walk in four games this season before getting scratched with the calf injury after doing sprints in the Fenway outfield before Saturday night’s game against the Brewers.
Jonathan Herrera, who played third base Saturday night, will bat seventh in the lineup today.
The 25-year-old Holt is batting .364 (4-for-11) with two doubles, two walks, three runs scored, and a stolen base in three games with the PawSox this season. Acquired by the Red Sox as part of a six-player trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates in December 2012, the left-handed batting Holt appeared in 26 games with the Red Sox in 2013 and made 17 starts, all at third base. He hit .203 (12-for-59) with two doubles, 11 RBI, and seven walks.
