Down The Stretch They Come! Eckersley Beats Fingers, Henderson in Oakland Mascot Race

It’s not a marathon, it’s a sprint… especially when it comes to mascot races.

The A’s paid homage to Hall of Famer and former Athletic Dennis Eckersley last night by including his likeness in the nightly mascot race alongside A’s legends Rollie Fingers and Rickey Henderson.

And it was Eckersley who crossed the line first in the between-innings sprint.

NESN play-by-plan man Don Orsillo was thrilled by the festivities. Eck not so much.

“It was like the Kentucky Derby for me,” Orsillo said in the video above. “I had a horse in the race!”
The Red Sox came up short in their nine inning race in Oakland, losing to the A’s 4-2.
