It’s the Raiders.
OK, now that we have that out of the way, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that the Raiders have reached an agreement with their rock-star kicker Sebastian Janikowski on a four-year, $16 million deal with $9 million guaranteed. The contract looks pretty much identical to the four-year, $16 million pact — with $9 million guaranteed — the Raiders struck with all-world punter Shane Lechler last year.
So that means Oakland will have $8 million a year tied up in their kicker and punter. I wouldn’t advocate that, but maybe Al Davis is nostalgic for the days of Ray Guy.
Anyway, how is this relevant to the Patriots? Well, the affable Bianca Wilfork, Vince’s wife, issued a couple tweets a few minutes ago. The first one, from @Mrs75: “4 yr 16 mil 9 guar for yall kicker largest in history” … And then: “Wow oakland kicker”.
Safe to say that Vince and his family have a pretty good idea of what’s happening around them on the market.
The other Patriot-related nugget to offer here? With Janikowski locked up, the probability that ex-New Englander Richard Seymour gets franchised goes up a notch.
