Just checked in with the kid a few minutes ago, and Gresham told me he’s had no contact yet with New England. Which could actually mean they’re real interested in him, with the smokescreen season well underway.
Anyway, Gresham had major knee surgery before the start of the 2009 season, and after deciding to return to Norman following a banner 2008. That put an end to his playing days at Oklahoma, but when this kid was suiting up, he was a monster for the Sooners.
He said that he’s right back where he was before the surgery. He worked out at the combine (Officially, running a 4.71 in the 40, and posting a 35-inch vertical), did drills at OU’s early March Pro Day, and will work out for scouts again at Sam Bradford’s Pro Day on March 29 in Norman, in part to help his old teammate out.
Another one to keep an eye on. He’s lauded as a real team-oriented guy (evidenced by his staying in school), and could become a matchup nightmare in the NFL. Now, the bad news … While he won’t go quite as high as he probably would have last year, the Patriots will likely need to pull the trigger on him at 22 if they really want him, because chances are that he won’t be there in Round 2.
Here’s the quote I’ll leave you guys with, which is on whether he has regrets over not coming out last year: “We wanted to come back here and win a national championship. We got there the year before, and lost. And we believed it we all came back, we’d have a chance to do that. … I have no regrets. I came back to play with the guys I loved.”
