Just not where you might expect. Or to be honest, where I would expect either.
That year, Brady set a record for single-season touchdown passes, had the second highest passer rating ever posted for a season, and threw for the third-most yards a QB ever has (That mark has been knocked down to fourth on the list since.) He had just an eye-popping 50-8 TD-INT ratio and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a passer operate on a higher level than Brady did that year.
I was, to say the least, surprised by that. But really, their logic is simple — Championships count. So really, the determining factor here was that the Lamar Hunt Trophy is carrying in the picture was the last one Brady would hold that year.
Indeed, Dan Marino’s 1984 season was the only non-title one ranked above Brady’s 2007. The other six ended in championships.
You could argue that Brady really did lead the Patriots to the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl (as, say, Kurt Warner did in 2008), and the defense didn’t hold up its end of the bargain in the clutch. What do you guys think? Too low for Brady on this one?
