But his mind might be elsewhere tonight.
As Gerry Fraley from old stomping grounds at the Dallas Morning News notes, Rob’s older brother Chris will be suiting up and playing fullback for the Cowboys, as Jerry Jones’ crew takes their training-camp barnstorming tour to San Diego from just up the coast in Oxnard. The brothers together at Arizona over the last few years, and Chris hooked on with Dallas.
Another brother, Dan, started his NFL career last year with the Detroit Lions, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.
If Chris makes the Cowboys, or hooks on somewhere else to play the season, the Growkowskis will become the 25th family to have three members make it to the NFL. Pretty astounding, when you consider how close in age the three are — Dan is 25, Chris is 23 and Rob is 21.
The oldest brother, Gordon, is playing independent league baseball now after spending time in the Los Angeles Angels system. The youngest, William, is now a highly recruited receiver as a high school senior.
Were he to make it (and we’re a ways off from that), the Gronkowski would match the record of four brothers, set by Jim, Joey, Keith and Ross Browner. Pretty interesting stuff.
