FOXBOROUGH — The one chance Rob Gronkowski would have had to face one of his brothers this season was taken away when Dan Gronkowski was traded from Detroit to Denver last month.
So the Thanksgiving Day plans may have to change for the family that has three boys in the NFL but no one is complaining. Rob is in his rookie season with the Patriots, as the team’s second-round draft pick. Chris Gronkowski is a fullback with the Dallas Cowboys and Dan, the oldest of the three, is a tight end with the Broncos.
“We keep in touch and both are doing well,” Rob said. “Both of them made the active roster too. It’s great having all three of us being in the NFL and I’m glad they’re there because we all support each other.”
The Patriots will play the Lions in Detroit on Thanksgiving, and the meeting would have been a chance for Rob and Dan to reconnect, but the Lions sent Dan and a late round draft pick to Denver for cornerback Alphonso Smith.
“That would have been cool if I would have gotten to play one of them,” Rob said. “It is what it is.”
