Belichick’s cool with the Ryan family

Despite all the talk of kissing rings, and the victory lap the Jets took after last September’s New York win, and the take-that long ball tossed in Randy Moss’ direction at the end of last November’s Patriots win … It seems like the Belichicks and the Ryans are getting on just fine.

Ryan said over and over again how his Patriot counterpart is the better coach, and today on his conference call with the New York media, down here in Florham Park, N.J., Belichick send some good vibes Rex’s way.

“I have a lot of respect for Rex, always have,” Belichick said. “My relationship with that family goes back quite a ways, with Buddy in Philadelphia and Arizona when we were both coordinators or head coaches in the league.

“His brother Rob coached here for four years. Rex has done a terrific job. I think our styles are different, but I don’t think that really matters. I have a lot of respect for what he does and the way his teams play, they’re a tough opponent. We certainly have a lot of respect for Rex and the entire team, the New York Jets.”

The follow-up? Great one … So have you and Rex, Bill, gone out and gotten beers in the past?

“We’ve hung out a little bit,” Belichick said. “Not too much, but a little bit.”

Interesting how, despite all the perception that’s out there, each guy has nothing but good things to say about the other.
