There was no sign of Deion Branch in the locker room during the media access period (for that matter, not many of his new/old teammates were spotted either), as he was still undergoing his physical.
But it appears that he will be donning jersey No. 84 during this go-round with New England, and will occupy Randy Moss’s old locker next to Tom Brady. Though there was no nameplate above the stall as of yet, there was an 84 jersey hanging inside with all of the requisite Patriots gear.
Branch wore No. 83 during his first four years with the Pats, but that number of course now belongs to Wes Welker.
Cleaning up one detail of the trade: multiple reports say that Seattle will receive the higher of New England’s fourth-round picks. So if Denver finishes with a worse record than the Pats, it will be the pick the Broncos sent along for Laurence Maroney that is then flipped to the Seahawks.
The Pats’ PR staff indicated that we may hear from Branch after practice, but nothing is positive yet.
