NFL Players’ Association executive director DeMaurice Smith will be in Foxborough next Thursday to meet with Patriots players, according to Pats’ player representative Matt Light.
The meeting was rescheduled from late September, as Smith traveled to the funeral of Broncos’ receiver Kenny McKinley on the day that he was initially to be here at Gillette.
After Smith meets with the Patriots, they will vote on whether to decertify the union; it is expected that the vote will be unanimous. At least 10 other teams have voted to decertify, including Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Washington, and the Giants.
The move to decertify, or disband, the union means players could sue the NFL for violating antitrust laws if there is a lockout.
