After his first sack of the season resulted in a penalty flag for unnecessary roughness, it seemed that Vince Wilfork would be getting a FedEx envelope from the NFL after his helmet grazed that of Miami quarterback Chad Henne on the play.
Wilfork has been fined, but it was for driving Henne into the ground.
An NFL spokesman said today that Wilfork was fined $10,000 for “roughing the passer. Specifically, on a pass play, he unnecessarily drove the opposing QB into the ground.”
Wilfork wasn’t the only player from the season finale to receive a fine – Miami’s Paul Soliai was also docked $10,000 for his hit on Brian Hoyer on Hoyer’s 65-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Tate.
“Specifically, on a pass play, he struck the opposing quarterback in the head and neck
area,” the league spokesman said via email.
It was the second time this season that Wilfork has been fined; he was tagged after the Packers game for a facemask penalty.
