It completely slipped my mind to post these final results from the open practice sessions, but better late than never, right?
Figured these one-on-one totals would provide more information and context heading into final cuts. Again, as I explained here at length, this one drill is merely just one tool used in evaluating offensive and defensive linemen. And I am merely one amateur judge of those battles. All I can do is remain consistent and try to judge them the same way each time.
First, the two awards to be given out:
The 2011 Boston Globe Brick Wall Award goes to RT Sebastian Vollmer. Logan Mankins had a slightly lower loss percentage, but Vollmer’s amazing 15 wins in 29 attempt gives him the title.
“Like you said, it’s one tool in practice, but obviously I think it’s important,” Vollmer said. “You kind of get the best shot each way. Yeah, it’s kind of like you can show what you can do, try different things. Obviously you’re trying to win and do your best.”
The 2011 Mr. Unblockable Award went to NT Vince Wilfork, who was just that — unblockable — going undefeated in 19 attempts. Even some of his 10 draws could be considered victories. It’s hard to tell with such a short area. But I’ve never covered a player on either side who has gone undefeated. Wilfork was, in a word, awesome.
