Rob Gronkowski sets NFL record for touchdown receptions by a tight end

Landover, Md. — With his 11-yard first quarter touchdown reception, Patriots all-world tight end Rob Gronkowski now has 14 touchdown receptions so far in 2011 to set the NFL single-season record.

Update: In the third quarter, Gronkowski teamed with Tom Brady again for a 37-yard touchdown reception. No. 15 for the NFL leader.

Coming into the game, Gronkowski was tied with Vernon Davis (49’ers in 2009) and Antonio Gates (Chargers in 2004) with 13 touchdowns.

Gronkowski now has 25 touchdown receptions in 29 NFL career games. He reached the 20 mark in the fewest games by a tight end in NFL history. Gronkowski is on pace to finish the year with 1,237 receiving yards which would set a franchise record for tight ends. Ben Coates had 1,174 receiving yards in 1994.
