Patriots release Kellen Winslow

New England has released tight end Kellen Winslow, a league source confirmed, just eight days after he was signed by the team.

ESPN Boston reported that Winslow asked for his release and it was granted by the team.

The 29-year old Winslow has had health problems that began in 2005 when he was with the Browns. He also contracted a staph infection that affected the health of the knee. It is believed chronic knee pain may have been too much at this point.

Winslow played a few snaps against Baltimore on Sunday night and had one catch for 12 yards.
