NFL fines Patriots linebackers Brandon Spikes and Jerod Mayo for hits against Bills

FOXBOROUGH — The National Football League Friday handed down some stiff fines of Patriots linebackers Brandon Spikes and Jerod Mayo for their rough treatment of the Bills in the fourth quarter Sunday’s 37-31 victory over Buffalo at Gillette Stadium.

According to the NFL, Spikes was fined $25,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, which drew a roughing the passer penalty, while Mayo was hit with a $10,000 fine for his late hit out of bounds on Bills RB C.J. Spiller, which drew an unneccesary roughness call.
