Via the NFL transaction wire, the Patriots signed NT Anthony Rashad White on Monday.
A rookie free agent out of Michigan State, White was initially signed by the Steelers on May 3, but was waived/injured by the team after its rookie mini-camp, reverted to Pittsburgh’s injured reserve, and then was released from IR a week later.
White is listed at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds on his NFL.com draft page, but reportedly appeared out of shape during Steelers’ rookie camp.
With the Patriots possessing so few defensive tackles at the moment, Smith has a real chance to compete at the position, provided he is in shape.
A former Michigan high school state champion in powerlifting, White is the 90th player on the Patriots roster, which is always in flux at this time of year.
