FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots announced the re-signing of Austin Collie Thursday, and also placed Josh Boyce on season-ending injured reserve. Boyce has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.
It’s the third time since the start of the season that Collie has signed with the team. He first joined them Oct. 3, was released Nov. 5, came back Dec. 5, and was released again Dec. 27. His initial release came two days after he suffered a knee injury against the Steelers.
In seven regular-season games, Collie had six catches for 63 yards.
When Collie was spotted at Thursday’s practice inside Gillette Stadium, and all eight members of the Patriots practice squad were also spotted, speculation turned to which of the four injured players who hadn’t been seen — offensive lineman Logan Mankins, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, and receivers Boyce and Aaron Dobson — might be moved to IR. It ended up being Boyce, who had nine catches in the regular season for 121 yards.
