Costly losses

The Buccaneers will play the rest of the season without defensive end Adrian Clayborn, who suffered a right knee injury Sunday against the Cowboys that will require surgery. Clayborn, who as a rookie in 2011 led the team in sacks, was placed on injured reserve . . . Colts wideout Austin Collie will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee. Collie, one of the Colts’ top pass-catchers the last three seasons, had just one reception this year . . . Redskins left tackle Trent Williams has a bone bruise on his right knee and is day to day . . . Three days after he was released, linebacker Bryan Thomas was re-signed by the Jets.

Abraham arrested

Falcons defensive end John Abraham was arrested in Atlanta Monday night on charges of obstruction of police and firefighters, both misdemeanors. Abraham was outside a building where authorities were called for a woman threatening to jump. A police report said Abraham refused to exit the restricted area and was arrested . . . A federal magistrate ordered attorneys for the NFL and Jonathan Vilma to hold a status conference on Thursday to discuss the league’s efforts to block Vilma’s demands for evidence in the league’s bounty investigation of the Saints. The NFL filed a motion Monday arguing that attempts to initiate discovery are premature because another motion to dismiss Vilma’s defamation lawsuit against commissioner Roger Goodell is still pending.
