ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Wes Welker was held out of practice on Wednesday as he continues testing following a concussion sustained in the Broncos’ 27-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday.
“He’s working through the protocol,” interim head coach Jack Del Rio said. “They’re increasing activity as he clears hurdles and all that, and when they give me the green light, we’ll get him back out there.”
Welker’s status for Sunday’s game against the Patriots is up in the air, but no one on either side doubts how much Welker wants to take the field against his former team.
Welker signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Broncos in the offseason after receiving what Welker’s agents described as a “take it or leave it offer” from the Patriots.
