NFL NOTEBOOK
Bledsoe is set to playBanged up but unbroken, Drew Bledsoe is ready to play tomorrow against the New York Jets after shaking off the effects of a hit to the head that briefly knocked him unconscious last week.
"I feel good and ready to go," the Buffalo Bills quarterback said yesterday after practicing for a second day. Bledsoe missed practice Wednesday after complaining of dizziness, the result of a helmet-to-helmet hit with Keith Hamilton of the New York Giants in the third quarter of the Bills' 24-7 win last Sunday. A week earlier, Bledsoe sustained a mild concussion when he was kneed in the back of the helmet in a loss to Indianapolis. "The last two days I've felt fine," he said. "They've done every test they can come up with and everything is normal." Bledsoe might be handing off to rookie running back Willis McGahee, who could make his NFL debut against the Jets. "Willis had a good week of work. He practiced with our offense every day this week," said Bills coach Greg Williams. "We'll go down to the final warmup before we make a decision." McGahee has been practicing with the team since mid-October and was activated Nov. 5, but this is the first week Williams has considered putting him in the lineup. The former Miami star had knee surgery after being injured during the Hurricanes' loss to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl in January. Quarterback options Tim Hasselbeck will start at quarterback for the Redskins against the Giants tomorrow because Patrick Ramsey is sidelined by a right foot injury. Ramsey wasn't able to practice yesterday. "Tim is set to go, and Gibran Hamdan will be the backup," coach Steve Spurrier said. " Ramsey missed last week's game against New Orleans, then reinjured the foot during practice Wednesday. He needs surgery but hopes to play again this season. Bears quarterback Kordell Stewart will get his second straight start tomorrow, at Green Bay. He replaced an injured Chris Chandler at halftime of a 19-10 win over Denver two weeks ago, then threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns after starting last week's 28-3 win over Arizona. Texans hurting David Carr and Domanick Davis did not practice with their teammates again, leaving in doubt their availability tomorrow at Jacksonville. "Both of those guys we'll take out prior to the game. We'll have David throw and we'll have Domanick run and we'll make a decision in terms of their availability before the game," coach Dom Capers said. Rookie Dave Ragone will start if Carr is unable . . . Chiefs running back Larry Johnson pleaded innocent to charges that he threatened a former girlfriend with a gun and hit her . . . Edgar Bennett assumed the duty of running backs coach for the Packers, subbing for Sylvester Croom, who was excused from the team to devote time to his new job as coach at Mississippi State. © Copyright 2003 Globe Newspaper Company.
