Bruce can't make go of it

Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce was inactive for last night's 47-17 playoff loss to the Falcons in Atlanta because of a groin injury that limited him in practice all week.

Bruce was among the NFL leaders with 89 catches for 1,292 yards, a 14.5-yard average, and six touchdowns. Second-year player Kevin Curtis started in his place and had seven catches for 128 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown.

Bruce was unable to run at full speed when he tested the injury several hours before game time. He was hurt in last week's first-round victory over the Seahawks.

A family first
Falcons coach Jim Mora finally gave his family a playoff victory. His dad, Jim Mora Sr., took New Orleans and Indianapolis to the playoffs six times, only to go one-and-out each time. He's the only 100-win coach in NFL history without a postseason victory on his resume. His son now has a 1-0 record in the playoffs . . . Rams quarterback Marc Bulger was sacked four times, once for a safety, and another for a lost fumble . . . The Falcons easily surpassed their franchise playoff scoring high, eclipsing the 30 points they scored in beating Minnesota in the 1999 NFC Championship game . . . In the first half, the Falcons topped 200 yards rushing, setting a team postseason record.
