WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Washington Redskins acquired six-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins on Sunday to fill the hole left by Phillip Daniels' season-ending knee injury.

The Redskins sent a 2009 second-round pick and a 2010 sixth-round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for the 33-year-old Taylor.

Daniels tore a ligament in his left knee on the first day of the team's training camp on Sunday, while fellow defensive end Alex Buzbee also suffered a season-ending injury when he tore his Achilles' tendon, also on Sunday.

"One of the more impressive accomplishments is that he has played over 90 percent of his possible playing time every year," Redskins official Vinny Cerrato told reporters.

"We had to act after losing our starting defensive end Phillip Daniels. I talked to (Dolphins vice president of football operations) Bill Parcells after practice today, and we were able to work something out."

Parcells began to look to trade Taylor when the 12-year veteran chose to appear on the television show Dancing with the Stars rather than take part in offseason training.

"Normally, there is nobody on the market of his caliber," said Cerrato. "He is a six-time Pro Bowl player, and was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2006. The timing was right."

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Taylor has spent his entire NFL career in Miami, where he recorded 453 tackles, 117 sacks and had seven interceptions.
